Week Two: Vampires

Post a 350-500 word response in your class blog that discusses the relationships portrayed in the book you read for this week. How is situation and character of the vampire used to outline or convey ideas or truths about the important relationships in the story? This discussion can be amplified by a discussion about the relationships in the movie you watched. Post a comment on another student's blog.

After reading Interview with a Vampire I noticed that the relationships between the characters are dramatic, and highly romanticized. The way Lestat interacts with Louis is filled with extreme feelings, and emotions. Lestat's character is more sinister than of Louis. Louis tends to feel bad about killing humans, and does not have the average Vampire attitude we see today in so many novels and films. Lestat is the exact opposite. He enjoys killing people, he is sinister and corrupt. This is where the Evil versus good trope idea comes in. Even though Louis is portrayed as more humane, he still is a vampire and does things that are not considerably good. Again the evil versus good trope is presented in a different way. Louis tends to battle himself. His urges don't align with his feelings. He is constantly fighting himself not to kill people, but at the end of the day he still does it. His inner self is fighting good, and evil.
